The 2014 Spring/Summer Finders Keepers Market was held on 17/18 Oct in the heritage REB ( Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton ). It is also being held in Brisbane ( Nov 8th, 9th) and Sydney ( Dec 12th,13th). And the Autumn/ Winter market will make its way back to Melbourne in July next year.

There are all sorts of markets: stock market, real estate market, fish market, flea market, farmers market, but this is THE Art & Design Market, and its got to be the prettiest market. See a collection of the very best crafts and unique products. For a $2 token entry, enjoy hours of live music, great food, workshops and browsing around for that perfect gift, or more likely, your wishlist, depending on your financial situation. It is a treat for the eyes to see so many interesting designs under one roof by so many talented local artists.

Chirashi took an exciting trip to Kyushu, meeting new friends and enjoying the food and sights each city has to offer ! Starting from Fukuoka (the international gateway to the island) on the northern shore of the island, the bullet train reached Kagoshima ( sand bath) in the south in just 1.5hours. The JR Kyushu 5 day pass which can only be purchased outside Japan is the way to travel and a real saving in cost and time. Nagasaki ( Dejima, Holland slope), Beppu (hot springs), Youfuin ( trendy shops)…but Kumamoto is the best. Wonderful volunteers at the station who are passionate about giving help to any visitor, and the kind people met along the way… Mt Aso is the highlight here. It is the largest active volcano in Japan and apparently it is the only caldera in the world where one can stand right at the edge and look in. And what a contentment to have delicious food everyday ( hakata ramen, motsunabe, mizutaki, kurobuta, satsumaage, yakitori, turkish rice, mentaiko omelette, chanpon, kibinago sashimi, ekiben (yummy boxed food sold at stations which you can slowly savour on the trains…) and taste the specialty in every town!

Queen Victoria Market on a Sunday

Sunday trading at the Queen Victoria Market started in March 1979,  with 100,000 people visiting it. Through the years, the market has not lost its charm or function. It is always bustling with activities ( and i read that stall holders have to wait many years for a permanent stand) and spruikers add to the frenzy at closing time, shouting out discounted prices to attract shoppers. On Sundays, there are often street food festivals and free entertainment. Come spend a family day at our much loved Vic Market!
