Greek Festival

Celebrating the 31st anniversary of Sister Cities of Melbourne & Thessaloniki. Plenty of sunshine, Greek traditional folk dances and Greek yogurt !

Melbourne is said to have the largest Greek-speaking population outside of Europe, after Athens and Thessaloniki, Melbourne’s Greek sister city. Greek migration to Australia dates back to 1827 but the vast majority of Greeks arrived between 1945 and 1982.

The city’s Greek Precinct (in and around Lonsdale Street between Swanston and Russell streets) had its beginnings in the 1930s and today is home to Greek restaurants, cafes and cake shops.

Kathleen Syme Library, Carlton

Exciting new library & community hub opening on July 4, 2015 on Faraday St, Carlton.  Great to have yet another city library right in the Melbourne Uni and Lygon St cafe precinct.

This 139 year old building has undergone a $15 million restoration and maintains its stunning Victorian-era facade.  Formerly a state school,  it opens its doors as the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre.

Free activities ( and coffee of course) on its opening day on 4/7/2015.
